Thanks for reading

I have three goals in mind for this blog.

  • To reflect on my writing practice.

  • To connect with a community of other aspiring authors who suffer from the same authorly afflictions as I do.

  • To enhance my writing and broaden my experiences with the words.

Rules

  • Fiction writing comes first.

  • Every word on this blog serves to enhance my craft and to achieve publication.

  • Never post more words than I have written in prose.

So far so good

I honestly didn't think that writing would be this fun. Up until recently, I wanted to be a writer because it had a certain mysticism that I valued. Reading as a kid was like a super power, one that got stronger the larger the book or the longer the series. And the ones who wrote them were nothing short of heroes. But writing, now that I have finally bitten the bullet, is actually kind of amazing. Sounds silly for a writer with a blog on writing. We exist, apparently.

But to explain a little better, writing has been a goal for long time. But basically I always thought of it as a product. A noun. But the verb, as it truly is, is what excites me now. I feel energised whilst writing rather than just happy I wrote.

I have www.nanowrimo.org to thank for that realisation. The once a year, long distance sprint to write fifty thousand words in November forced me to start. I appreciate that. I certainly didn't write that many words, and I would have seen that as a failure before the challenge started. But I knew that after my first writing session that I would continue well into the future. My story will continue to grow beyond the first of December.

I'm excited to continue.

Thanks for reading.

Here it goes...

It's happening, finally, I think. Maybe. I want to be an author. It has been a dream of mine on and off for a while. Largely off as it...
